The firm’s mission is to provide clients an aggressive legal team with a reputation for excellence in serving both businesses and the individuals who own and manage those businesses.  The firm concentrates in core areas of Bankruptcy & Insolvency, Business & Corporate Law, Commercial Litigation, Construction Law, Estate & Asset Planning, and Real Estate. 

 

In 1991, Curtis Coon started the firm which has grown to become Coon & Cole, LLC.  David Cole came to work with Curtis while attending law school, and has been with the firm ever since.  The firm has achieved AV Preeminent status, which is the highest possible rating of professional excellence from Martindale-Hubbell, a distinguished peer review system generated from evaluations of fellow attorneys and judges.

 

The firm has developed a reputation for excellence in real estate, business bankruptcy, commercial litigation and construction law.  Coon & Cole represents local general and subcontractors from a wide variety of trades, including commercial builders, heavy infrastructure workers, plumbers, electricians, ironworkers and painters, including one of the largest infrastructure contractors and one of the largest electrical contractors in the Baltimore region.  The firm has litigated construction claims, including mechanic’s liens and bond claims from the perspective of the owner, general contractor, and subcontractor and has actively pursued bid protests at various governmental agencies and courts in Maryland. Zachary Coon the firm's newest principal, concentrates in business litigation.

 

The firm’s real estate practice represents developers, investors, lenders, retailers, and builders in the buying, financing, developing, constructing, leasing, and selling of all types of commercial real estate, from shopping centers and office buildings to raw land.  Its attorneys’ broad range of experience allows the firm to integrate its transactional services with other necessary areas of the law, including corporate, tax, estate planning and construction law, to provide clients with a comprehensive and cost effective result.

 

Marc Shach counsel to the firm, brings with him a depth of experience and a highly regarded reputation in bankruptcy and insolvency law.  Over the course of Marc’s career, he has served as creditors’ and debtors’ counsel, as a trial attorney with the Department of Justice serving in the office of the United States Trustee and as an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law, teaching its business bankruptcy course (primarily Chapter 11) for five years.

 

The firm’s work in this area of practice covers all matters related to bankruptcy and insolvency for businesses and individuals, including various chapters of bankruptcy and issues related to credit, foreclosure, and debt.

 

Coon & Cole serves as counsel to banks for enforcement of loan documents and also represents borrowers in defending post-judgment collection actions.  Its principals have served as court-appointed receivers in actions preliminary to foreclosure, handled complex foreclosure cases, managed the liquidation of assets in an orderly fashion, and served as liquidating trustee under a confirmed Chapter 11.

 

Completing the team of Coon & Cole are two associates – Colin Casler and Cara Herman, each with significant experience, outstanding academic records and capabilities in supporting the firm in achieving its mission of providing an integrated professional legal team with a reputation for excellence in serving businesses and the individuals who own or manage those businesses.
